‘Burning The Flame’, ‘DNA’ and ‘Resistance Climbing’ are the three films that make up ‘Reel Rock 17’. The stars: Barbara Zangerl, Jacopo Larcher, Seb Bouin and Andrew Bisharat
Burning The Flame
Jacopo Larcher and Barbara Zangerl seek the ultimate challenge: the free ascent of the legendary Eternal Flame (650m 7c+), the quintessential route of the Nameless Tower, located deep in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan. Captured with drones and high-altitude cameras, the mind-blowing film of his successful ascent transports viewers to a place normally off-limits to most but the world’s best climbers.
DNA
Seb Bouin signed up for DNA’s first ascent in May 2022. Located in the La Ramirole sector, in the heart of the Verdon Canyon (France), the Bouin proposed a difficulty of 9c. The climbing world scratched its head: is this Frenchman a showman or the new king of sport climbing. Seb’s images answer the question. DNA shows barely real dams and a series of almost infinite movements on an imposing overhang. All indications are that Seb is at the forefront of human performance in rock.
Resistance Climbing
Among the ancient terraces and conflict-torn hills of Palestine has emerged a close-knit community of climbers who have embraced the sport as a much-needed breath of fresh air in the face of the burdens of the Israeli occupation. A diverse group of Bedouins, activists and urbanites invite us to explore the beautiful limestone walls of their homeland and the power of climbing to transform lives. Journalist Andrew Bisharat travels there to discover his roots and is the character who drives the story.
