Luciano Pavarotti gave a free concert in London’s Hyde Park to celebrate his 30 years in opera A crowd of more than 125,000 people attended the concert stoically enduring a rain that did not stop falling, to see and hear the 55-year-old tenor sing a selection of his favorite arias Pavarotti woke up that morning believing that no one would attend but Londoners accustomed to the rain did not hesitate and came in droves Not seen anything like this since the legendary Rolling Stone concert in 1969.
The concert brought together personalities of the time such as Lady Di, Charles of England, Andrew Lloyd Weber or the actor Michael Caine At the beginning, the personalities in the front rows were asked to lower their umbrellas to allow the crowd behind to see the stage The atmosphere was one of pure admiration for the hero.
Accompanied by 82 musicians of the Philharmonia Orchestra and 120 members of the Philarmonia Choir Pavarotti, standing in his full evening dress, his beard, his corpulent figure, kept almost completely still, his voice alone, in the pouring rain, made that day an exceptional event.
